Area info

Exuma, although relatively small, has a lot to offer! Even after years of living here you can be surprised where you find stores, restaurants and treasures. When you're shopping, keep in mind that most things that are imported have a shipping, customs and duty charge applied to them, so there is a reason for the higher cost. Here are a few places that we feel may be helpful for you to know about during your time on the island.

Food & Liquor Stores:

-Exuma Markets- The largest food store around, located in George Town is open Mon-Thurs 8am-6pm, Fri-Sat 8am-7pm and Sun 8am-11am unless there is a local holiday. The boats arrive on Mondays (from USA) and Tuesdays and Thursdays (from Nassau), so usually by the afternoon on those days the shelves are restocked. Their phone number is 242-336-2033.

-Prime Island Meats & Deli Locatedin La Familia Plaza, Hoopers Bay is open Mon 10am-3pm, Tues-Fri 10am-6pm, Sat 10am-3pm and Closed on Sundays. Their phone number is 242-336-3627.

restaurants

There are several restaurants within a short walk of the cottages, and many that you can call in food for carry-out as well. We'll have more detailed information with phone numbers and listings for all the restaurants in your cottage when you get here. We have lots of local options that serve fish, bbq chicken, baked macaroni, peasand rice and the typical Bahamian Cuisine. There are fancy restaurants, beach and sports bars, as well as our famous Fish Fry shacks. You can even call in a caterer to cook food for you at the cottage if you want to stay put and have the scrumptuous meal brought to you. Let's just say, you won't go hungry!

Shopping:

shopping

Although we do not have any large shopping malls or namebrand stores on the island, you can still find trinkets, treasures and basic essentials if you know where to go. Here is a list of a few places to look for when you're out and about:

-Sandpiper Boutique is a great place to find some local arts, crafts, jewelry, clothing, maps, sunglasses, bags and much more. It is a must-see on your shopping trip through town.

- The Local Straw Market is where you will find all the ladies in their booths selling your souvenirs to make all your loved ones back home remember you got to come to Exuma, all they are got is a t-shirt!

Tropical Accents & Gifts is another great little shop in George Town that features all sorts of home furnishings to help keep your island retreat with you when you return home. Cleopatra makes a lot of handmade jewelry, paitings and offers many beautiful 'tropical accents' for your home.

-Brown's Marine & Boat Storage has a great selection of boating items, floats, shoes, swimsuits, etc.

- Top II Bottom is an interesting shop to just take a peek in. You will find all kinds of things in that really small space from fishing gear, mask & fins, water toys, linens, hardware, dvds... you really never know what all you will find. This is one of our biggest 'toy stores' on the island, so the little ones always get excited to take a trip here and see what kind of deals they have in stock. You'll find some items that have been around for years, so it is almost like and antique shop as well!
